Metal Roof Construction
A metal roof is constructed slightly differently than a shingle roof with additional steps that demonstrate its benefits and qualities.
Re-Sheeting
Often an older roof will not need to be fully replaced, but it will need to be re-sheeted. This is because it has multiple layers where moisture and rot can build up.
By re-sheeting, your roof will have a fresh and clean base on which a new construction can be built. This is especially important for buildings that use a “spaced sheeted” configuration, which will need to be brought up to code through re-sheeting.
Underlay And Starter Strip
The high-end synthetic underlayment is ideally suited to metal roofs, and a great demonstration of the kind of benefits that a metal roof can bring to your property.
This underlay not only protects the roof deck during installation, but it will also serve as an additional barrier against leaks and weather damage. This is followed by the starter strip, which will add an extra layer of waterproof protection.
Panel Installation And Finishing
Once this preparation work has been done, it’s time to install the larger panels, and then add on the finishing elements.
These are the critical components that help ensure the metal roof will be a long-lasting and durable construction, including:
- Cap Flashing
- Cap Flashing ensures there will be no water intrusion at the peak of the roof
- Gable Flashing
- Gable flashing is designed to protect the exposed portion of the gable end
- Ridge Venting
- Ridge venting allows air to flow out of the attic space beneath the roof and from the space between the metal roof and the surface
